Sexology treatment

Sexology treatment aims to improve sexual health, well-being and pleasure. Sexual problems can be complex and affect different aspects of life. Therefore, it is important to approach these problems from a holistic perspective, taking into account biological, psychological and social factors. This is called the bio-psycho-social approach.

What is the bio-psycho-social model?

The bio-psycho-social model is an integrated approach that recognizes that sexual problems often arise from a combination of biological, psychological and social factors:

  • Biological: This concerns physical aspects such as hormones, neurological functions, medication use and medical conditions that can influence sexual health and functioning.
  • Psychological: This concerns mental and emotional factors, such as personality, beliefs about sex, but also psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and trauma.
  • Social: This includes the influence of relationships, upbringing, cultural norms, religious beliefs, and societal expectations on sexual behaviours and experiences.

Multidisciplinary Treatment

Due to the versatility of sexual problems, sexological treatment is often approached in a multidisciplinary manner. This means that different specialists work together to provide a treatment plan. This can also mean that there is cooperation between healthcare institutions or that consultation can take place to shape care as best as possible. Consider consultation with your GP, medical specialist, (pelvic) physical therapist, sexologist, or relationship therapist.

The specific content of a sexological treatment may vary, depending on the nature of the problems and the request for help, and will always take place in consultation with you.

Registration and reimbursement

You can register through your GP and by completing the Registration Form on our website: https://www.grippsychologen.nl/en/Contact/Subscription-form/

Some sexual problems can only be reimbursed by the insurance company if they are related to another psychological diagnosis. In many cases, the sexological treatment forms a part of the broader treatment within Grip Psychologen.
