Sexual problems

For many people, sexuality is an enjoyable part of life. Yet sexual problems are more common than you might think. This not only concerns the presence of problems but also the absence of pleasure or freedom to shape sexuality according to your wishes. All this can have a major impact on your quality of life, relationships and other symptoms. Professional help can help you better understand and address these issues.

Complaints of Sexual Problems

Sexual problems can manifest themselves in different ways:

  • Too little or too much desire for sex
  • Problems with arousal (e.g. erection problems)
  • Pain during sex
  • Problems achieving an orgasm or never having experienced an orgasm
  • Sexual preferences that may bother you
  • Doubts or confusion about sexual orientation or gender identity

Sexual problems associated with other psychological or physical disorders, such as depression, trauma, anxiety or physical conditions

What causes sexual problems

The causes of sexual problems are diverse and can be physical, psychological or social in nature. Factors such as stress, fatigue, relationship problems, traumatic experiences, hormonal changes, and certain medical conditions or medications can all play a role. In addition, negative beliefs about sex or sex education can contribute to sexual problems.

Therapy

At Grip Psychologen there are a couple of practitioners who have experience with or specialize in the treatment of sexual complaints. The treatment will often be approached from a Bio-Psycho-Social model. This uses various therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). In addition, we can collaborate with medical specialists if necessary. Involving a partner in the treatment is often of added value.

We help you set realistic goals and work together to improve your sexual health and well-being. Focussing on developing a healthy and positive view of sexuality can be a key concept.

Blended care

If there are sexual problems, we can offer partial online treatment, in collaboration with Therapieland's online programs (e-health). You will find more information on our Online treatment - Blended Care page.
